Do your individual choices have social repercussions?
I am trying to finish my homework assignments late because I spent the past two days attending the BYU Women's Conference in Provo Utah. As inspiring and educational as the speakers were, the highlight of the weekend was spending my time with 20 of my sisters, nieces, Aunts, daughters and friends. It was a huge boost to my overwhelmed self. Having not attended school full time for the past 30 years, taking 18 units is SERIOUSLY OVERWHELMING!!! The support these ladies have been to me (I have a huge family that all support me) and my children through our recent loss I can not even begin to describe. I am writing this because of the homework assignment I had which was to watch a two part series on Youtube called Demographic Winter.

As a very short summary, it is about the economic problems that will eventually come to the entire world because of falling fertility rates across the globe. They seek to discover the reasons for the falling fertility rates and their conclusions are our individualism along with devaluing traditional families. Their solutions are to strengthen the family with public policies that strengthen and value families.
Related to this but different, a headline in the news this week said that the young adult population is the loneliest population in society. Loneliness leads to so many personal problems including the epidemic of suicides in our society. These things could be helped with the support system of the family. Other research has shown that married people are healthier and happier as that children from strong healthy families do better in almost every social indicator. We have so many significant problems in society that effect the happiness of so many people. Do our individual choices matter? Is it our responsibility to worry about others in our society? I know my opinion on those answers, what do you think?
